IN PERSON WORKSHOP
Date: October 8, 2025
Instructor: Suzi Ballenger
Workshop Description: Crafting a statement is challenging for every artist. The words represent yourself AND your art, trying to capture the essence and intention of your vision. Learn how to navigate ways to express yourself in your artist statement, how materials can speak about your art, and how to best combine the two. Together, we will find strategies to shape sentences with intention, using words in ways that move others, while staying true to your art and yourself.
“You can say anything on the trombone, but you gotta be careful with words.” ~Duke Ellington
Supplies: Please bring photographs of personal artwork they would like to discuss and write/refine artist statements for. Bring a fully charged laptop or tablet for writing on and a paperback thesaurus/dictionary if you have one to share
Attendee Limit: 12
Instructor Bio: Suzi Ballenger, MFA, is a Rhode Island fiber artist and educator known for thinking outside the box. An unending curiosity for material stimulates her language of hand and craft, believing the fullest expression of a fiber can be realized through observation, repetition, and structure.
