IN PERSON WORKSHOP

Date: September 10, 2025

Instructor: Penny Lacroix

Workshop Description: A weaving gamp is a two-dimensional array of woven patterns. It is used as a tool to examine the interactions that occur at the intersections of each warp and weft variable. In the most basic gamps, the variable is the same in both warp and weft, i.e., it’s woven as drawn in. The WGB requires 2-3 gamps for their Apprentice rating and 1 gamp for their Journeyman rating. This workshop will help weavers understand what a gamp is, how to design and create one, and how it can be utilized. Participants will design a gamp in the workshop. (Weaving it later is optional!)

Supplies: Bring to class paper and pencil, markers or colored pencils optional

Materials/Handouts Fee: $3

Attendee Limit: 15

Instructor Bio: Penny is a weaver, spinner, teacher, historian, manager, learner, creator and general lover of all things fiber. When she’s not actively learning something, she’s sharing with others in one way or another –making something by hand, demonstrating at historic events, or teaching a class. With past careers as an engineer, a mom, a museum educator and a museum director, combined with her hobby as a historical reenactor, her worlds interweave in the creation of textiles and the study of historic textile tools. Penny is active in the Nashoba Valley Weavers’ Guild, the Weavers’ Guild of Boston and the Boston Area Spinners and Dyers. She teaches weaving and spinning locally and on Zoom. She lives in Westford, MA with her husband and their furry friends.
