ZOOM WORKSHOP RECORDING
Date: October 9, 2024
Instructor: Cally Booker
Workshop Description: This class is all about double-faced twill. That’s not double weave with twill but a way of weaving an ordinary twill fabric with two complementary wefts to create unusual and intriguing patterns. We’ll see how the basic structure is created and gradually build up variations on four shafts, eight shafts, and more. Cally will share drafts based on block and point threadings and show how she uses them to create collections of related but distinct woven pieces. Finally, we’ll look at drafting methods for creating original multi- shaft designs using the two faces of twill.
Supplies: Students are requested to print and bring to class the Handouts provided by the Instructor, along with note-taking supplies.
Materials/Handouts Fee: None
Attendee Limit: Unlimited
Note: This workshop is offered as a VIDEO ONLY workshop for one week (Friday to Thursday) following the live Zoom presentation.
Instructor Bio: Cally Booker lives and weaves in Dundee on the east coast of Scotland. She is drawn to places at the edge, where land and water meet. In her work, she explores lines and boundaries, positive and negative, using multi-layered structures that hide and reveal. She achieves this by combining digital design tools with the slow processes of hand-dyeing and hand-weaving. Cally’s work has been exhibited around the UK and internationally. She is a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and a past president of Complex Weavers.
