IN PERSON WORKSHOP
Date: March 11, 2026 9:30am-12:00pm (note early start time)
Instructor: Mary Brooks
Workshop Description: Discover the world of basketry!
Join us and learn the basics of basket weaving with paper.
We welcome beginners as well as those who might have some basketry experience.
Beginners will start by learning basic woven paper basketry including rim finishes. Students can choose from an array of colored paper and/or painted paper. We will start with the base using a simple over one under one weave for the base, then begin to work up the sides to create a vessel. I will demonstrate how to use a pasta cutter to make the strips of paper. Students will take home a finished basket (or nearly finished!) plus alligator clips and paper strips for another basket.
Materials provided by Instructor: students will take home a set of alligator clips, and paper for a second basket)
Materials Fee: $ 25
Students are requested to bring to class: Please bring scissors for cutting paper, something for taking notes if desired.
Attendee Limit: 15
Instructor BIo: Mary Brooks is an artist, a scientist and an educator. She acquired a masters in Fiber Arts from the London College of Furniture and a few years later a masters’ degree in Creative Arts and Learning from Lesley University. Mary created and taught arts-integrated lessons in biology and chemistry classes for high school students in the Boston area.
