NOTE OUR REFUND POLICY

If you withdraw:

In-Person and Zoom Workshops:  

  • One month or more prior to the workshop you will be offered a choice to receive a refund, less our processing costs, or a credit to apply to another workshop. 

  • Between one month and two weeks prior to the workshop you will receive a credit to apply to another workshop.  

  • Within two weeks of the workshop date, workshop fees will not be refunded.

3-Day/3-Session Workshops: (in-person or Zoom)

  • One month or more prior to the workshop you will  receive a refund, less our processing costs. 

  • Between one month and two weeks prior to the workshop you will receive a refund (minus fees) only if your spot can be filled.

  • Within two weeks of the workshop date, fees will not be refunded.

Otherwise:

Double/Triple Registration:

  • If you register multiple times for the same workshop you will receive a credit toward another workshop and no refund.

Books and Monographs:  

  • We do not accept returns on books or monographs.

Dues:  

  • Dues and Fees will not be refunded.

Designing for Tapestry
Instructor: Louise Abbott
Workshop Description:  “Oh dear ....... what shall I weave?” Have you ever been here?
This is a two hour immersion discussion into the design possibilities for Tapestry weaving. We will discuss the path to designing so bring your ideas and questions.
 
When you view a woven tapestry, do you think about what is underneath .... the backstory?
 
We will consider sources for inspiration, how to prepare a tapestry design, adaptability to weaving on a grid, negative space, contrast, and most important, enjoyment of the process and having fun!

Supplies:  Five photos, clippings, or objects that they feel they might use for inspiration. Questions that they might have thought about or problems regarding creative inspiration. Notebook and pencil for ideas.

Instructor Bio:  Since the early 1970s, Louise Abbott has been involved with textiles in a business as well as creative capacity. She loves the textile process and is excited by the idea of creating a woven piece for functional use that is also esthetically pleasing. Technical development is important to her and she has taken numerous workshops and classes. She developed her knowledge and skills as a Contract Weaver in the late 70's and in early 80's while maintaining a studio in the Artist Cooperative, The Brush Art Gallery, in downtown Lowell, MA. In the late eighties and early nineties she had the opportunity to work in the yarn development divisions of two major Textile Industry Manufactures.
 
Currently, Louise weaves her home studio and has exhibit space in the Arts League of Lowell Gallery, Lowell, MA. The exotic sensuality of fiber and color continue to inspire her to create her own designs for rugs, tapestries, afghans, and other items. She finds excitement in the melding of process, design and fiber, and draws much of her inspiration from nature and her travels.
 
For the last twenty years, Louise’s focus has been with Tapestry, a powerful art form dating back many centuries, and an eloquent means of expression. The materials used, the weaving process, and interpretation of the design give the tapestry life. Weaving is very labor intensive and offers her the opportunity to slow down and be deliberate in this accelerated paced world.
