Workshop Description:
Would you like to learn how to use flat pin loom squares to create 3-dimensional projects? This class is for you! No previous experience necessary! No materials needed.
Deb Essen will share how to weave a square, tips on using different yarns, changing yarns within the squares and construction/hand sewing methods for connecting the squares. Then she will demonstrate how to make squares into different shapes and techniques to create ornaments, boxes, creatures and more! No squares are cut in the making of the shapes.
Students are requested to bring to class:
If you would like to work along with the demos, have the following on hand: square pin loom (4 inch or larger) or woven pin loom squares, yarn needle, and knitting yarn for stitching/weaving squares.

Instructor Bio:
Deb Essen lives, weaves, and runs her business “dje handwovens” in the Bitterroot Valley, nestled in the Rocky Mountains of western Montana. In 2004, Deb achieved the Certificate of Excellence in Handweaving-Level 1 through the Handweaver’s Guild of America. In 2011, she was inducted to the Montana Circle of American Masters in Folk and Traditional Art. She is the author of Easy Weaving with Supplemental Warps, (2016 with revised re-release 2022), Swatch Critters from the Pin Loom (2025), and Profile Drafting for Handweavers (2025), all by Schiffer Publishing. She has recorded five weaving videos, available through Long Thread Media, ranging from supplemental warps to profile drafting and has written multiple feature articles for Handwoven, Weft, and Little Looms magazines. Deb is passionate about teaching about the wonders of weaving and teaches at shops, guilds, regional and national conferences, and festivals.
