IN PERSON WORKSHOP

Date: September 11, 2024

Instructor: Carol Birtwistle

Workshop Description: Drafting is a design tool for the weaver - one of the most valuable skills a weaver can possess. The purpose of this workshop is to clarify the development of a weave structure by working with each of the components of the draft: threading, tie-up, and treadling order. Understanding the function of these components and how they interact will result in a draft that illustrates the intersections of the warp and weft for an actual weave structure. By understanding the drafting procedure, the weaver can make knowledgeable changes in the draft, thus creating innovative designs, and will have less reliance on projects in weaving publications. This is a hands- on workshop.

Supplies: Students are requested to bring to class: Graph paper - 6 to 8 squares to the inch (downloadable from the web), pencils with erasers.

Materials/Handouts Fee: $1.00

Attendee Limit: 12
