ZOOM WORKSHOP

Workshop Description: If you are going through the effort to make a hand woven textile, shouldn’t it be well designed? How would you go about doing that? This workshop will lead your through the elements and principles of good design so that you can make sure your weaving is not only structurally sound but aesthetically pleasing. The workshop will be part lecture, with many visual examples, and part hands on, where you will get to practice what you’ve learned. In doing so you will find that there are many ways to approach good design once you understand the elements that make it happen.
Levels: This workshop is suitable to all levels and loom types from rigid heddle to jacquard. It’s for anyone who is ready to move beyond “recipe” weaving.
Supplies: Bring to class: paper or graph paper, pencil, colored pencils or pens.

Instructor Bio: Sara Nordling has an MFA in studio art/textiles. She has been creating with fibers since childhood and began weaving as an adult. Sara has taught weaving as well as drawing, painting and design at the university level. Her own weaving work has utilized double weave in various forms. Sara currently resides in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she does commissioned weavings and is an adjunct professor of art.

This workshop is offered as a ZOOM Workshop ONLY. A video of the workshop will also be available for viewing for one week at noon on Friday through Thursday following the workshop.
