For the past 84 years, the Weavers Guild of Boston has presented a juried sale and exhibition of textiles. In November the WGB board calls for weaving from the New England area. It considers a wide range of work from approximately 50 of its best weavers. The sale offers shoppers colorful blankets, household items, soft warm scarves, one of a kind clothing, and novel gifts. The sale was originated by charter members of the Weavers Guild of Boston who offered fine hand woven items to Boston customers. They strove to keep quality high and to encourage continual learning from their members. The purpose remains the same today and upholds the fine traditions set by the original 7 women. The guild was able to house the sale in private homes until the early 1990's. The increase in both the number of weavers and the volume of work dictated moving to a large hall. The Josiah Smith Barn was chosen. This choice facilitated having to move many boxes of weaving from a North Shore location to a South shore location and back to the WGB meeting each year. Having a permanent location has made it easy for our customers to find us. Today there are over 2,000 items in the sale and customers come from long distances to enjoy the colorful atmosphere created by the artistic weaving. .....Information and Forms for Participants |
