Date: March 15 - 17, 2018
Time: 10:00AM - 4:00PM
Vestry of Congregational Church, Westborough, MA
Level: All levels
Attendee Limit: 20

Class Description:

Using cotton and recycled rags (Aloha shirts!), weave a tapestry or small rug employing techniques and design tips presented by Faith Milnes, Assistant Professor of Environmental and Interior Design at Chaminade University in Honolulu. Students arrive with a pre-warped loom and rags cut to specifications. Day 1 opens with design and techniques discussions and then students jump right in. Students weave on during Days 2 and 3, experimenting with ideas for future projects and troubleshooting. "Mistakes are often opportunities," says Faith. Come to learn, be inspired and to share!

Colorful woven rug

Floor or table loom warped for plain weave with 8/4 carpet warp, 36-40 inches wide, 5 epi doubled at selvedge. Plan for finished rug approx. 48 inches long plus 10 inches for fringe on either side. 10 dent reed. Rags (including old sheets, remnants, cotton, cotton blends, washable silk-no knits) cut 3/4-1 inch wide. Scissors (prefer Fiskars). Ski or flat shuttles for winding rag strips. Tape measure.

NOTE: The instructor will accommodate students who wish to use a table or smaller floor loom instead of a 36-40 inch wide loom. Adjust the sett to 10epi and cut rags to 1/2 inch wide. This will yeild a steeper angle and an overall finer effect. If you have questions, contact:
