2011 May Meeting

Shopping, connecting and celebrating take center stage at the May meeting. Below, members browse the items on the Silent Auction tables, looking for a book to fill out their weaving library or a unique yarn to add to their stash. Guild members love this chance to 'recycle' the tools, magazines and yarns they don't need, and maybe find the treasure they never knew they wanted.

During the year the guild schedules diverse classes and workshops for all levels of weavers. At the May meeting the articles made in these sessions are on display. All weavers are invited to share their creations. The Fashion Show gives members another way to show their wearable creations.

The Weavers Guild of Boston offers a Ratings program, a framework of self study that encourages weavers to expand their knowledge of techniques, theory, color and fiber. At the May meeting, guild members were excited to hear that three weavers had earned Ratings, more than we have had in many a year. Sharon Bowles and Carol McClennen achieved the Apprentice Rating. Photos of the work they submitted can be seen on the Ratings page.

This year we celebrated a rare event - a new Master Weaver!  Congratulations to Deborah Watson who earned this rating. Deb submitted the 17 woven articles and all the written materials to the Ratings Committee, which reviews and critiques all applications. Below are examples of the woven items that Deborah submitted. More photos can be seen on the Ratings page.
